Taste of TU Dublin is a targeted pre-entry initiative supporting individuals who have experienced social, economic, or educational disadvantage and are considering higher education. The programme offers an accessible introduction to university through campus visits, engagement with staff and students, and participation in taster lectures or hands-on activities. Clear information on academic expectations, financial supports, and student services is provided to demystify higher education and reduce perceived barriers. Informed by research and community partner feedback, the programme aligns closely with PATH 3 objectives, including aspiration building, informed decision-making, and strengthened transitions for underrepresented groups.
Since its launch in 2021, Taste of TU Dublin has grown from 10 participants to over 580, reflecting strong demand for inclusive entry pathways and structured, community-connected transition supports. A key strength is its partnership-driven model. Community organisations work directly with learners identified in the National Access Plan, including people with experience of homelessness, people with disabilities (including intellectual disabilities), mature students, lone parents, Travellers and Roma, migrants, refugees, ethnic minorities, and individuals from socio-economically disadvantaged areas. Engagement through trusted networks has contributed to high participation and positive progression outcomes.
Building on this work, TU Dublin delivers Preparation Days for Mature Students who have accepted places on Access Foundation Courses or undergraduate programmes. These days support students to familiarise themselves with the campus, connect with peers, and ease their transition into higher education. Participation increased from 33 students in 2022 to 135 in 2025. Continuity has been central to success, with the same facilitator delivering both initiatives and providing a consistent point of contact.
A proposed 15-minute co-delivered presentation will share findings from the ongoing evaluation of Taste of TU Dublin (2021–2024), drawing on participant feedback, data trends, and practitioner insights, and highlighting newly developed pathway support resources.
